Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds extracted and distilled from plants for health benefits. They are powerful and very concentrated liquids making them easier to use then herbs. You can use essential oils three ways: aromatically, topically, and internally (not all essential oils are intended for internal use, so make sure to check your labels before ingesting essential oils, learn more about that HERE.)
Today we are going to talk specially about using essential oils aromatically.
Essential oils can be used aromatically a few different ways:
-
OLD FASHION WAY- Add a couple drops of essential oils to your hand, rub together, cuff over the nose, and breathe in.
-
POOR MAN’S WAY-Open up an essential oil and breathe it in straight out of the bottle.
-
DIFFUSER- Add 4-8 drops of a single oil or blend of oils to a diffuser and diffuse.
Using a diffuser is the most popular way to use essential oils aromatically.
Diffusers dispense small molecules of essential oils into the air and when breathe in they can change the mood, boost the immune system, and support a healthy respiratory system.
When you inhale essential oils, they go through the nasal cavity, and enter the limbic system. The limbic system is the part fo the brain that controls emotions, memories, and stimulation. This is why essential oils can be extremely effective for changing your mood and helping with things like concentration.
DIFFUSING OILS ARE A BETTER OPTION THAN CANDLES
Candles emit hazardous chemicals and toxins into the air, that can cause damage to our bodies. Though they are great at covering up unpleasant smells they can cause more damage than good when burned in your home.
Ditch the candles and diffuse essential oils instead
Diffusing essential oils smells amazing and they have multiple health benefits for you.
Citrus oils can be diffused to freshen the air and kill germs.
Lavender oil can be used to promote a calming and relaxing mood.
Peppermint can stimulate your brain and help you focus.
Essential oils can be used to set the mood and give your house the smell you wish. Some of my favorite blends are ones that remind me of a particular holiday or season. Fall is my absolute favorite season of them all. Seriously, the brisk fall nights, bonfires, and pumpkin everything, what’s not to love?
Fall is the time for opening up windows to air out the house before the cold winter months. You will find us spending the days outside enjoying the weather and visiting pumpkin patches. On those colder or rainy fall days you can bring fall inside with these diffuser blends.
