An introduction to a new friend and a delicious, summer side dish.
Happy Wednesday! I’m so excited about today’s post and I’ve been looking forward to it for a while. I’d like to introduce you to my sweet friend Emily from @handmade.farmhouse. She is going to be sharing a delicious Brussels sprouts and asparagus recipe, perfect for summer. I’ve been following Emily for a while on Instagram; you can find her here if you would like to follow along as well (I would highly recommend you do ;)) and she has one of my absolute favorite accounts. Her photos are always beautiful and she is so genuine in her captions and the way she interacts. She and her husband built their home from the ground up, which she will tell you about below, and everything about it is beautiful. Emily has a gorgeous, old-world, farmhouse style. She is decorating her young boys’ room right now with vintage, second-hand globes that she’s able to snatch up. She also loves to cook! Hence the yummy recipe she is sharing with us all. Emily is going to give a little introduction and background about herself and then let you in on the Brussels sprouts and asparagus goodness. Without further ado, here she is!
Hi! I’m Emily,
I am passionate about art in all forms! I have discovered a deep love for cooking and baking for my husband, three young children, friends and family. Bright colors, wonderful scents, fresh flavors and the ability to add creativity to my dishes, fills my soul with goodness. I believe that food connects people, and no matter our differences we can all find joy in sharing a good meal at the table together.
I am an introvert by nature and would choose to be home over anywhere else in the world. Give me all the cancelled plans, no school, Netflix and laundry, or grilling in the back yard with my man kind of days.
I love to surround myself with simple beauty, most commonly in the form of anything handmade! We recently moved into our home that my husband built by hand on nights and weekends for the last (almost) 2 years. Its been a huge sacrifice for our family, but we have learned to appreciate our time together more than anything. We love filling our home with vintage treasures, watercolor paintings from our children, second-hand furniture, and décor that has special meaning.
I like to have fun in the kitchen. You can’t take cooking too seriously.
My resolution this year is to find joy in simplicity. As I practice this goal, the noise and distraction in the world around me becomes quiet and I am able to focus more on what is most important. I look forward to teaching my children hard work in our new home. Together we want to plant a garden, harvest and store it, and learn to be more self reliant. If you’d like to follow along in our journey as we finish our home, create handmade beauty, plant a garden, and fill our kitchen with tasty dishes, please join us over on Instragram @handmade.farmhouse
Today I am thrilled to be sharing a fun and simple recipe that we love for summertime cookin’. This side dish pairs well with fish, chicken, or even as the main dish with some fresh watermelon. I hope you enjoy it!

Brussels & Asparagus:
This recipe is very simple and doesn’t consist of exact measurements.
Use as much Brussels sprouts and asparagus as you need. Slice Brussels in half.
Toss in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil, sea salt, garlic powder, pepper and fresh garlic (I used about 2 cloves chopped).
Sprinkle with about 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs.
Spread on a baking sheet (I line with parchment) and bake at 400 degrees F for 20-25 minutes, stirring twice while roasting.
About half way through baking, add a hearty amount of freshly shredded parmesan cheese.
You can squeeze a little fresh lemon on top if desired.
Serve warm from oven.
YUMMMMMMM
